Supporter Spotlight: Overbrook Presbyterian Women's Dining Circle
The Women’s Dining Circle of Overbrook Presbyterian Church knows how to make fundraising down right fun. In January, the Dining Circle hosted a dinner that raised over $1,200 for Women Against Abuse.
"Having a Dining Circle is such a fabulous way to give something to the community around you," Organizer Katie Kupstas says. "Our church matches the money we raise and donates it to a charity of our choice." Katie chose to support Women Against Abuse because "the issue of domestic violence is near and dear to my heart."
Katie adds, "It’s great to spend an evening with a bunch of women. We make it fun with different food, themes and drinks. It’s not that hard and it’s incredibly rewarding. In fact, it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done.”

Women Against Abuse Increases Teen Outreach in February
As part of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, Women Against Abuse is increasing its teen outreach in February. Throughout the month, Women Against Abuse, in cooperation with eight other agencies, will educate teens and adults about healthy relationships and the warning signs of teen dating violence by attending several teen events (including poetry slam sessions and school dances) and hosting a training session for professionals who work with youth. At the same time, Women Against Abuse educators will launch three new Students Talking About Relationships classes in two Philadelphia high schools. To kick-off this awareness outreach, students and advocates from across Phladelphia came together on January 28 to celebrate City Council's designation of February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.

Women Against Abuse Receives Grant from First Hospital Foundation
Through a two year grant, Women Against Abuse will continue its life-saving work in trauma-informed behavioral health services. With the money from First Hospital Foundation, Women Against Abuse's Clinical Director and staff therapists will increase individual therapy hours and provide additional adult and children therapy groups with treatment tailored for the traumatic experiences of domestic abuse survivors. Approximately 95% of clients in the emergency shelter suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, major depression, or major anxiety as a result of domestic abuse.
Vagina Monologues to benefit Women Against Abuse
The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine will perform The Vagina Monologues on February 13th at 7pm and February 14th at 2pm. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Women Against Abuse as part of National V-Day, an international movement to end violence against women and girls.
